Frequently asked questions
Do I need to vacant the premises while the rewire is being carried out?
Yes, this is due to health and safety. There will be open floorboards and no power.
What do I need to need to do prior to the rewire?
It would be a massive help to us if you can move furniture to the centre of the room away from the walls so we can lift carpets but leave a small space enough for step ladders to access the light. Also box up all your belongings and store them in a garage or shed if possible. If this isn’t an option then you can put the boxes on top of your bed. Anything that is too big to move yourself we are happy to move this for you on the day we arrive.
Do I need to cover my belongings with dust sheets?
No, we will supply all dust sheets but you are more than welcome to use your own.
Is it possible to keep my laminate floor down?
This is a possibility depending on what other cable routes we have for that room. This can be discussed while surveying your home.
My loft is floored, will I need to lift it?
No we can lift certain parts of the loft floor to rewire your upstairs lights and will screw them back down.
How long does a rewire take?
A typical 2/3 bed semi detached house can take 2/3 days. This varies from time to time and depends on your specific requirements and overall size of the property.
How much does a rewire costs?
Again this comes down to your specific requirements. We price per electrical point. Our prices start from £1900 no VAT. Contact us for a free estimate.
Are you VAT registered?
No we are not VAT registered so all our quotes excludes VAT.
Can i supply my own light fittings?
Yes of course. We can fit your own lights.
Do you offer plaster works?
Yes we can hire our own plaster to bond and finish the damaged walls and ceilings made during the rewire. This is optional and you are more than welcome to use your own plasterer. We would need you to strip large sections of wallpaper at new socket and switch positions should you choose us to carry out the plaster works.
Does my house need smoke alarms and carbon monoxide alarms?
This isn’t a legal requirement at the moment but following the tragic fire at Grenfell Tower in London the government are bringing out a new legislation in which all homes must have interlinked smoke alarms and carbon monoxide alarms and will come into affect in February 2021.
How many alarms do I need?
The standard requires:
- One smoke alarm installed in the room most frequently used for general daytime living purposes
- One smoke alarm in every circulation space on each storey, such as hallways and landing.
- One heat alarm installed in every kitchen
All alarms should be ceiling mounted and interlinked. There is also a requirement for carbon monoxide detectors to be fitted where there is a carbon-fuelled appliance (such as boilers, fires (including open fires), heaters and stoves) or a flue.
I don’t plan to renew my kitchen bit still need it rewired. Is this an issue?
No this is not a problem although we may have to take some tiles off to install sockets above the worktop. All worktops will be covered and protected from any damage.
Does your work come with a warranty?
Yes all our work comes with a 1 year warranty on labour and materials.
I plan to keep my carpet, will this be put back down after lifting?
Yes any carpets we lift we will put back down the best we can. Once carpets have been lifted sometimes they don’t always go back down the way it was and you may need a carpet fitter to stretch and staple the carpet back down.
I have bespoke vintage cornice in my rooms. I don’t want these damaged. Is this possible?
Yes, there are ways we can rewire to avoid damaging the cornice.
