Frequently asked questions

Do I need to move while the rewire is being carried out?

We strongly advise you move out due to health and safety. A full rewire is very disruptive and messy.

What do I need to need to do prior to the rewire?

It would be a massive help to us if you can move furniture to the centre of the room away from the walls so we can lift carpets but leave a small space enough for step ladders to access the light. Box up all your belongings and store them in a garage or shed if possible. If this isn’t an option then you can put the boxes on top of your bed. Anything that is too big to move yourself we are happy to move this for you on the day we arrive.

Do I need to cover my belongings with dust sheets?

No, we will supply all dust sheets but you are more than welcome to use your own.

Is it possible to keep my laminate floor down?

This is a possibility depending on what other cable routes we have for that room. This can be discussed while surveying your home.

My loft is floored, will I need to lift it?

No we can lift certain parts of the loft floor.

How long does a rewire take?

A typical 3 bedroom semi detached occupied property with plaster repairs will take 4/5 days.

How much does a rewire costs?

This will come down to many factors. Fill out our cost calculator form and we will get back to you with an estimate.

Can i supply my own light fittings?

Yes of course. We can fit your own lights.

Do you offer plaster works?

Yes we can hire our own plaster to bond and finish the damaged walls and ceilings made during the rewire. This is optional and you are more than welcome to use your own plasterer.

Does my house need smoke alarms?

This is a legal requirement now following the tragic fire at Grenfell Tower in London. The legislation came into affect in February 2021.

How many alarms do I need?

The standard requires:

  • One smoke alarm installed in the room most frequently used for general daytime living purposes
  • One smoke alarm in every circulation space on each storey, such as hallways and landing.
One heat alarm installed in every kitchen

All alarms should be ceiling mounted and interlinked. There is also a requirement for carbon monoxide detectors to be fitted where there is a carbon-fuelled appliance (such as boilers, fires (including open fires), heaters and stoves) or a flue.

I don’t plan to renew my kitchen bit still need it rewired. Is this an issue?

No this is not a problem although we may have to take some tiles off to install sockets above the worktop.

Does your work come with a warranty?

Yes all our work comes with a 12 month warranty on labour and materials. Our customers are also cover with the NICEIC 6 year platinum promise.

I plan to keep my carpet, will this be put back down after lifting?

Yes any carpets we lift we will put back down although once lifted they are never 100%. You may need a carpet fitter to stretch and staple the carpet back down.

I have large cornices and ceiling roses in my rooms. Will these be damaged during the rewire?

No there are ways we can rewire to avoid damaging the cornices and ceiling roses.
